About William

William Aila has served as Wai‘anae’s harbor master for nearly two decades.  He has also demonstrated a strong commitment to public service on numerous appointed and voluntary boards and commissions, including, among many others, the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority, Wai‘anae Coast Weed and Seed Steering Committee, Makaha Elementary School Community Management Board, Wai‘anae Coast Neighborhood Board, Wai‘anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center Board, and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve Council.

A graduate of Wai`anae High School, William earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Tropical Agriculture at the University of Hawai`i Manoa.

Born in 1958 to a family that has been a part of the Wai`anae Coast for more than seven generations, he has been married for nearly 30 years to Melva Napua Kailikea and has two sons, Kekoa and Kainoa, and two grandsons, Kekoa and Ka‘iana.
